Southern Willamette Valley Alliance

Braver Angels: Southern Willamette Valley Alliance is a chapter of the National Braver Angels organization. We are working in our local community (Eugene, Springfield, and the surrounding areas of Lane County and beyond) to bring people of different political perspectives together for communication workshops, discussions, and public presentations designed to bridge the polarizing political divide we experience in our country. These events allow conservatives and liberals to move past the destructive stereotypes so we can better understand one another and problem-solve real issues. We hope you will join us!

Upcoming Events

2nd Tuesday of each month (Jan 13, Feb 10, March 10, etc) Time: 6-7:30 pm The Oakshire “Talking Politics” Meetup (Monthly)

We will divide into pairs and have three 20-minute, topic-focused conversations, followed by unstructured social time. You will find your Braver Angels hosts at a table outside.

Thursday, Jan 22nd Time: 6-7:30 pm Alliance Meeting. Topic: Courageous Citizenship (Monthly)

Thursday, Feb 26th 6-8:30 pm

Workshop by Barry Nobel - “Connecting with Compassion: Rising from Reaction to Response.”

Move with compassion from reacting to meaningful response. These tumultuous times can overwhelm us and/or motivate us to rise from fight-flight-freeze reactivity to compassionate responsiveness. We will explore obstacles to growth and then focus on insights and practices that can help us connect with greater compassion to ourselves and those around us.

Talking Politics Meetup

2nd Tuesday of every month, 6-7:30pm

Workshops and Meetings

Most 4th Thursdays of the month at 6pm we hold a workshop, "alliance meeting", or other activitiy which is open to all.

Locations vary.

Planning Meetings

Our 10-person evenly balanced red/blue steering committee meets in West Eugene on 1st and 3rd Fridays from 1-2:30pm.

In addition to these regularly scheduled events, there are many other things to participate in. Some examples include the 4th of July celebration at the Creswell Parade, our August picnic, film and discussion nights, etc... Email swva@braverangels.org and ask to receive our monthly newsletter so you can be kept up to date.

As we continue to grow, we plan to be more involved with local politics focused on resolving controversial issues relevant to our local community.

The magic of the BA model is that while addressing important political issues, we also get to know one another and build relationships in the process. The community we long for is born from our care for one another.
